Activities Program

This page contains information about the Mountain Devils bushwalking and social activities program.

You need to book in by the Friday before the activity. Leaders may place limits on the numbers attending and failure to book early can result in missing out on a place or the activity not proceeding. Also, if you print this list out and stick it on the fridge please don't forget to check back here for any changes that may have occurred.

COVID-19 Guidelines.

It is our intention to make our activities safe, enjoyable, and compliant with current COVID safe guidelines. Participation is at the discretion of the leader.
Please inform the activity leader if you:
- Have recently travelled overseas, interstate or to a 'hotspot'.
- Have a cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or are ill or have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
- Have recently had contact with individuals who are ill or whom have tested positive for COVID - 19.
- Have visited a venue where cases have been reported.
- Any other recent illness, accident or medical procedure which might otherwise limit your participation in this activity.

Please note that wearing an appropriate face mask will be a requirement if public transport is required to complete the activity. Appropriate use of hand sanitiser is strongly encouraged. Additionally, please observe social distancing guidelines during the conduct of the activity.
If in doubt, request clarification from the activity leader.

Walk Grading Guide.

Distance:Terrain:
A - 0 to 5km's.
B - > 5 to 10km's.
C - > 10 to 15km's.
D - > 15 to 20km's.
E - > 20km's.
1 - Introductory or easy.
2 - Moderate difficulty.
3 - Challenging. For regular, fitter walkers.
4 - Strenous. Fit, experienced walkers only.
5 - Advanced. Difficult walks for experienced, fit, self sufficient walkers.

- Entry fees apply to walks in the some National Parks. Members with an NPWS Exemption Card should bring it along.

Sun 2 Convict Roads - Mt York.
9.5 klm circuit. Strong walkers only. This walk includes a descent of 260 metres and ascent of 260 metres. This walk follows the original convict constructed road down from the Blue Mountains onto the Bathurst Plains. It returns up another convict road. Maximum party size 12.

Loop walk around south-east section of Heathcote NP. Waterfall - Lake Toolooma (via Coutts Gully) - Mt Westamacot (late morning tea) - Bullawarring Track - Myuna Ck (lunch) - return via Mooray or Bullawarring. Undulating walk on fire trails and rough footpads.

Sun 16 Artarmon to the Spit.
Our day starts with an easy & pretty path through scenic bush before a steep descent to the valley floor. This outing also includes 2 street sections and five different bush tracks:
1. Street Section 1 - a short section and
2. Street Section 2 - a 2.5km ascending and descending hike on a footpath.
3. Five different bush tracks -with many stairs, a cliff hugging waterfront track, a couple of flat bits & great views.
Note:
(a) Both street walks are through local back streets.
(b) Breaks taken in local parks
(c) A challenging & rewarding walk.
(d) This walk is for the more active Devils

Visit a lovely scenic, pristine valley in southern part of Dharawal National Park. Clear track, but sections are heavily overgrown. Needs restoring!

An easy 11 km return walk on the fire trail through the Kiah Ridge area to the 1899 Historic Picton Weir and Pump House on the Bargo River.

Return visit to search area around root cellar we found previously. Loop walk back to Wattle Ridge via Martins Creek. Some fire trail but mostly very overgrown rough tracks. Approx 17km. Limited numbers. Experienced members only.

Historic mining heritage and scenic views over Jamison Valley. Return via the challenging Golden Stairs. Hard 7km walk for strong walkers only. Maximum party size of 12.

Sun 11 La Perouse - Kamay Botany Bay National Park.
Along moderate tracks with beautiful wildflowers and birds and maybe spot a whale. On to Henry Head and Endeavour Lighthouse, then around to Cape Banks with great views across Botany Bay.

Sat 31 Brightmore Reserve to The Spit.
From the reserve, about 2.5km walking along back streets. Then steep descent to Quakers Hut and Beauty Point Foreshore Walk, a somewhat rough track with great views across Middle Harbour. Emerging at Pearl Bay and The Spit Bridge. Can be challenging with big hills and long stairways, but slow. Public Transport.

Sun 8 Mt Kiera Ring Track – Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area.
6km walk starts from Mt. Kiera Lookout and combines wonderful rainforest and rocky outcrops with great views over Wollongong. Some steep sections. Could also include Robertson lookout, another 3km.

Weekend getaway in the picturesque and historic Newnes. Opportunity to visit an amazing glow worm tunnel. Walking program to be announced closer to the date. Variety of accommodation options.

From Caringbah Station to the acclaimed Camellia Gardens, followed by a wander to the popular Sutherland Shire Centennial Park. Then a short bus ride to the impressive Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve which has 4km sealed paths to choose from. Easy day out. Public transport.

7.5km walk starting from the Minto Heights side of reserve. Peter Meadows Ck - Old Ford Rd - lookout over the Georges River - The Basin (200+ steps) - Minto Heights. Undulating walk not too challenging. Possible early wildflowers.

Most club activities start from The Catholic Club carpark, access the club carpark from the Camden Rd entrance and park in the first carpark area on the left. Link to meeting spot location map.
Please check with the Leader for the departure time from the designated meeting spot, please don't just "show up on the day" as our Activity Leaders need to know the number of likely participants before the activity.
