Activities Program

This page contains information about the Mountain Devils bushwalking and social activities program.

You need to book in by the Friday before the activity. Leaders may place limits on the numbers attending and failure to book early can result in missing out on a place or the activity not proceeding. Also, if you print this list out and stick it on the fridge please don't forget to check back here for any changes that may have occurred.

COVID-19 Guidelines.

It is our intention to make our activities safe, enjoyable, and compliant with current COVID safe guidelines. Participation is at the discretion of the leader.
Please inform the activity leader if you:
- Have recently travelled overseas, interstate or to a 'hotspot'.
- Have a cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or are ill or have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
- Have recently had contact with individuals who are ill or whom have tested positive for COVID - 19.
- Have visited a venue where cases have been reported.
- Any other recent illness, accident or medical procedure which might otherwise limit your participation in this activity.

Please note that wearing an appropriate face mask will be a requirement if public transport is required to complete the activity. Appropriate use of hand sanitiser is strongly encouraged. Additionally, please observe social distancing guidelines during the conduct of the activity.
If in doubt, request clarification from the activity leader.

Walk Grading Guide.

Distance:Terrain:
A - 0 to 5km's.
B - > 5 to 10km's.
C - > 10 to 15km's.
D - > 15 to 20km's.
E - > 20km's.
1 - Introductory or easy.
2 - Moderate difficulty.
3 - Challenging. For regular, fitter walkers.
4 - Strenous. Fit, experienced walkers only.
5 - Advanced. Difficult walks for experienced, fit, self sufficient walkers.

- Public Transport - don’t forget your Opal Card.
- Entry fees apply to walks in the some National Parks. Members with an NPWS Exemption Card should bring it along.

Sun 8 Mt Kiera Ring Track – Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area.
6km walk starts from Mt. Kiera Lookout and combines wonderful rainforest and rocky outcrops with great views over Wollongong. Some steep sections. Could also include Robertson lookout, another 3km.

Sat 28 E.G. Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens.
From Caringbah Station to the acclaimed Camellia Gardens, followed by a wander to the popular Sutherland Shire Centennial Park. Then a short bus ride to the impressive Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve which has 4km sealed paths to choose from. Easy day out. Public transport.

7.5km walk starting from the Minto Heights side of reserve. Peter Meadows Ck - Old Ford Rd - lookout over the Georges River - The Basin (200+ steps) - Minto Heights. Undulating walk not too challenging. Possible early wildflowers.

Loop walk starting from Lysaghts Rd. Cross Stokes Ck and then steep, rough, overgrown track to lookout for morning tea. More overgrown track to 10b fire trail then the Minerva Pool track (lunch) and back to the cars. Ankle deep creek crossings, some steep and rough bits.

8km loop track on formed bush track around picturesque Manly Dam. Also a short wildflower track, waterfalls and footbridges. Short steep hills and some steps. Public transport.

Sun 26 Dahlia Creek, Darkes Forest.
Pretty walk in the wildflower season through an attractive section of the forest. Lunch by a pretty creek. Mainly on fire trails, but some scrub possible. One moderate hill to negotiate, but generally fairly flat.

A lovely 4km stroll around the lake. Recently upgraded sections makes for an easier circuit walk, but still some hills and steps. Beautiful bushland and creek crossing. Public transport.

Challenging walk along the escarpment of the Southern Highlands. Great views across the Morton National Park. Also a chance to see the recovery from the 2020 fires. Lunch in the friendly village of Bundanoon.

Starting off with street section before following Hunts Creek on tracks and paths through the bush reserve. A stop at the cascading Balaka Falls for photos. Some hills, a steep track heading down to the creek and stepping stones crossing the creek. Café at end! Public transport.

Loop walk around a section of the Georges River bushland in Kentlyn. Visit 3 secret beaches along the river. Undulating walk on fire trails and rough, steep bush footpads. Some steep bits, loose surfaces. If a warm day then a swim may be in order.

Sun 31 Lookouts Over Nepean Gorge.
13km. Starting at the southern end of the Blue Mountains National Park to firstly admire great views from The Rock Lookout. Along the ridge on a firetrail to another lookout. Then diverting on a bush track to finally reach an expanse of boulders, the Nepean Narrows Lookout with expansive views down to the Nepean River.

On bush tracks through coastal forest with wildflowers, and across exposed headlands. Explore the old military bunkers and observation posts at Henry Head. Across to Cape Banks for the best views of Botany Bay. Return via the Weatpac Helicopter shed and another lookout.

Most club activities start from The Catholic Club carpark, access the club carpark from the Camden Rd entrance and park in the first carpark area on the left. Link to meeting spot location map.
Please check with the Leader for the departure time from the designated meeting spot, please don't just "show up on the day" as our Activity Leaders need to know the number of likely participants before the activity.
