Activities Program

This page contains information about the Mountain Devils bushwalking and social activities program.

You need to book in by the Friday before the activity. Leaders may place limits on the numbers attending and failure to book early can result in missing out on a place or the activity not proceeding. Also, if you print this list out and stick it on the fridge please don't forget to check back here for any changes that may have occurred.

COVID-19 Guidelines.

It is our intention to make our activities safe, enjoyable, and compliant with current COVID safe guidelines. Participation is at the discretion of the leader.
Please inform the activity leader if you:
- Have recently travelled overseas, interstate or to a 'hotspot'.
- Have a cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or are ill or have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
- Have recently had contact with individuals who are ill or whom have tested positive for COVID - 19.
- Have visited a venue where cases have been reported.
- Any other recent illness, accident or medical procedure which might otherwise limit your participation in this activity
Please note:
- Fully vaccinated members only. Carry proof on you.
- No visitors.
- Once permitted, only fully vaccinated visitors will be allowed to participate in club activites. Proof will be required.
- Up to 20 walkers permitted.
- Car pooling permitted, but at the discretion of each driver.
- Bring a mask in case you go indoors along the way.
- Wearing an appropriate face mask will be a requirement if public transport is required to complete the activity.
- Appropriate use of hand sanitiser is strongly encouraged.
- Please observe social distancing guidelines during the conduct of the activity.
If in doubt, request clarification from the activity leader.

Walk Grading Guide.

Distance:Terrain:
A - 0 to 5km's.
B - > 5 to 10km's.
C - > 10 to 15km's.
D - > 15 to 20km's.
E - > 20km's.
1 - Introductory or easy.
2 - Moderate difficulty.
3 - Challenging. For regular, fitter walkers.
4 - Strenous. Fit, experienced walkers only.
5 - Advanced. Difficult walks for experienced, fit, self sufficient walkers.

- Contact Activity Leaders on the numbers quoted. NO text unless specifically stated.
- Public Transport - don’t forget your Opal Card.
- Entry fees apply to walks in the some National Parks. Members with an NPWS Exemption Card should bring it along.

Approx. 8km walk along Hermitage Foreshore Walk to Nielsen Park, Bottle & Glass Rocks, Parsley Bay and down to Watsons Bay. Spectacular harbour views, historic homes, secluded beaches. Public transport - trains and ferries (mask up!)

Sun 14 La Perouse - Kamay Botany Bay National Park.
On bush tracks through coastal forest with wildflowers, and across exposed headlands. Explore the old military bunkers and observation posts at Henry Head. Across to Cape Banks for the best views of Botany Bay. Return via the Westpac Helicopter shed and another lookout.

Generally level walk across the heath to the scenic coast of RNP. Hoping for some spring wildflowers.

Sun 28 Keith Longhurst Reserve, Kentlyn.
Loop walk starting in Minto Heights. Down across Peter Meadows Ck, down and back up the Old Ford Rd, The Basin, short easy off-track to unamed lookout for lunch, and return to Minto Heights. Undulating walk with 200+ steps down and up from the Basin. Walk may be shortened if it's a hot day. Approx 7.5km.

Slower paced walk on bush tracks and paths, then a 50 metre steep descent down Flat Rock Gully to Tunks Park. Along reserves and parks for views and up steep stairways or an easier street section to Neutral Bay Junction. Public transport.

Sun 12 Bargo - Bridge to Bridge.
Along Bargo River from Rockford Rd bridge to Bargo River Reserve and return. Pretty bushland, not much up and down, fairly well sheltered. One creek crossing and perhaps a swim at the end of the walk. Approx 9km.

Heading to Wendy's Secret Garden for morning tea before a ferry ride to Circular Quay. Then following the harbour side footpath via Sydney Botanical Gardens & The Domain. Mostly flat. Public transport.

Lysaghts Rd to Minerva Pool and return. Start very late afternoon. Walk to Minerva Pool on fire trails and footpad. Extended break before returning to the cars in the dark by torchlight. Some steep sections. Torch essential. No torch, no walk (and I will be checking).

Bridge to bridge circuit walk on both sides of the picturesque Nepean River. Large shady trees along the way. Easy pace, generally level walk.

Classic circuit around North Head starting at Manly Wharf. Ascend North Head from Shelly Beach. Historic Military Precinct with fabulous Harbour views. Lunch stop at cafe located at halfway point. Return via Little Manly Cove. Bring Opal Card. 9km. Contact Phil 6.00pm to 9.00pm from the Monday prior to the walk. Phil will not accept txt bookings. Fully vaccinated participants only.

A circuit walk to explore this scenic and historic section of Sydney Harbour. A few short hills but rewarded with stunning views. May extend if weather permits. Public transport on ferries.

Sun 20 Glenbrook Creek - Springwood.
Challenging walk in the Martins Lookout area. Martins Lookout Track - Victory Track - Magdala Gully Track - Batman Track. Short road section then steep descent to Glenbrook Ck and wind our way back out via other tracks. Steep sections, possible creek crossing, waterfalls. Depending on group size/experience and weather we may include side trips to Psalm Rock and/or Shark Head Cave. Fit, experienced walkers.

Sun 27 Karloo Pools - RNP.
From Heathcote Station on sandy bush track with fantastic views of surrounding bushland below. Then a steep sandstone section down to Karloo Pools, a picturesque set of natural waterholes. Rocky ledges near pools can be slippery. Swim optional.

Most club activities start from The Catholic Club carpark, access the club carpark from the Camden Rd entrance and park in the first carpark area on the left. Link to meeting spot location map.
Please check with the Leader for the departure time from the designated meeting spot, please don't just "show up on the day" as our Activity Leaders need to know the number of likely participants before the activity.
