Activities Program

This page contains information about the Mountain Devils bushwalking and social activities program.

You need to book in by the Friday before the activity. Leaders may place limits on the numbers attending and failure to book early can result in missing out on a place or the activity not proceeding. Also, if you print this list out and stick it on the fridge please don't forget to check back here for any changes that may have occurred.

COVID-19 Guidelines.

It is our intention to make our activities safe, enjoyable, and compliant with current COVID safe guidelines. Please Note:
- Vaccinated participants only. Minimum of 2 COVID-19 vaccinations required.
- Please carry proof of vaccination.
- Participation is at the discretion of the activity leader.
- Car pooling permitted, but at the discretion of each driver.
- Please bring a face mask in case this is required to complete the activity. Wearing a face mask is currently a requirement on public transport.
- Appropriate use of hand sanitiser is strongly encouraged.
- Please follow any social distancing guidelines which may apply during the activity.
If in doubt, request clarification from the activity leader.

Walk Grading Guide.

Distance:Terrain:
A - 0 to 5km's.
B - > 5 to 10km's.
C - > 10 to 15km's.
D - > 15 to 20km's.
E - > 20km's.
1 - Introductory or easy.
2 - Moderate difficulty.
3 - Challenging. For regular, fitter walkers.
4 - Strenous. Fit, experienced walkers only.
5 - Advanced. Difficult walks for experienced, fit, self sufficient walkers.

Sun 7 Exploratory Walk - Kentlyn.
Loop walk in Kentlyn. Overgrown tracks and exploratory section with possible off-track walking. From Freres we will reacquaint ourselves with tracks along the western side of Peter Meadows Creek, traverse Keith Longhurst Reserve, explore tracks along the Georges River cliff tops to Freres Crossing, return to cars. Lots of up and down. Limited numbers. Experienced members only. 10 to 15km. Possible off-track.

Sun 14 Bidjigal Reserve.
A look around 'North Rocks Dam' before walking some of the different tracks in this 186 hectare reserve. Creek crossings, uneven surfaces, hills & fire trails. A big stairway climb up to our morning tea spot, otherwise an easy day out. Public transport.

Sun 21 Boobera Pool - Heathcote NP.
16km (approx) walk to one of the hidden gems of Heathcote NP. Waterfall - Mooray or Bullawaring Track - Bullawaring Track - Goanna Track - Unnamed Track (very overgrown) - Boobera Pool Track and return. Lots of up and down hills. River crossing (possible wet feet). Suit fitter walkers.

Approx 8kms. A very picturesque walk from Milsons Point, across the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and then to Central via The Goods Line. Bring Opal Card and mask.

Free time to wander around E.G Waterhouse Camellia Gardens on easy paths or stairways. Head home or continue to the nearby Joseph Banks Native Plant Reserve. Free entry to both gardens. Must be able to walk 2km in a hilly area. Bring a hat. Public transport. Note this is a Saturday activity.

Undulating pleasant walk of about 8km following Georges River from Glenfield through to Liverpool. May include visit to the Casula Power House Arts precinct. Easy pace will suit most members.

Sun 18 Seven Creeks Way, Dharawal National Park.
Explore a surprisingly unspoiled area of bush located between Appin and Bulli Tops. Approximate distance of 10 to 12km. A hidden local gem with some pretty spots. Walk not steep or technically difficult but parts of track will be in poor condition and may be partially overgrown. Will require a car shuffle.

Sun 25 Taronga Zoo to Balmoral.
Distance 6.5km. A delightful walk along the harbour foreshore with stunning vistas and numerous spots to enjoy. Many lookouts and wonderful spots to linger. Some steep sections but easy pace. Bring Opal Card and mask.

Sun 2 Spring Wildflower Walk, Royal National Park.
Pleasant plateau walk of about 12km across the Curra Moors to the coast. Lots of stunning wildflowers at their springtime best. Walk not difficult but can be exposed if weather hot so bring a good hat and water. Not whale season but we might get lucky. Lovely area!

Sun 9 Narrabeen Lakes.
Easy 8.6km circuit track on footpath & firetrail. Mostly flat with the occasional small incline. End our day out with a cafe lunch, beach walk or head home. Very friendly ducks will be ready for close up photos. Public transport.

Out and back walk to Grey Hat Falls via Red Hands Cave. Campfire Ck - Red Hands Cave - fire trail - Grey Hat Falls Track - and return (via Link Track and Campfire Ck). Bit of up and down. Rough track to falls with steep section. Experienced walkers. 13-15km. NP parking fee applies.

Sat 29 Sculptures by the Sea.
Starting from Bronte along the Coastal Walkway to Bondi Beach. Looking at artworks enroute to Marks Park, where the majority of sculptures are on show. Free time to wander around before continuing to Bondi Beach. Finish your day with lunch at Bondi, head to Watsons Bay or visit the City. Steep stairs (mostly down) & some inclines. Early start to try & beat the crowds. Public transport.

Sun 20 Winmalee - Blue Gum Creek.
Explore a picturesque valley in the lower Blue Mountains and see a remarkable forest of Mountain Blue Gums. Distance 10 to 14km. Stunning area. Clear route on tracks and fire trails. Some steep sections but predominately flat pleasant walking. Depending on interest and ability of group option of extending walk to Grose Mountain for great view over the lower Grose Valley.

Bush and Coastal walk over sand dunes in the Kurnell area. Stunning rugged coastal scenery. Distance 8km. If we are lucky we might spot a whale!

Most club activities start from The Catholic Club carpark, access the club carpark from the Camden Rd entrance and park in the first carpark area on the left. Link to meeting spot location map.
Please check with the Leader for the departure time from the designated meeting spot, please don't just "show up on the day" as our Activity Leaders need to know the number of likely participants before the activity.
